It does the same thing as the free on-line calculator, but it looks like someones first iOS application. Not a professional job, and not worth the $5 price being charged. It needs more work.

Can I get a refund? This app is way too basic for $5. I understand you use it to keep the bare bones website running, but this is awful. I had no idea how useless this app would be.

The ease of use for accurate starter calculations is valuable. Im all for supporting the time and research that went into developing this App, but as far as Apps go, this IS a Pricey one. I agree with some of the other reviews, more content would ease the pain of this purchase.

Pretty convenient app, since the one on Jamils website doesnt work on iOS devices. My only complaint is that it needs an appearance upgrade bad, especially to take advantage of the larger iPhone 5/5S/5C screens.

I do not like the number of steps it takes to switch from liquid to dry. Was easier before.

Love this app, especially the new redesign. So far it has been accurate and consistent for me, I feel like my beer is better than it ever has been because Im finally pitching enough! Thanks!

The interface is terribly buggy now, things have been buried where previously they were readily accessible. This, "revamp" is an unfortunate step backwards. Sadly I didnt back up so Ive lost the old version and am stuck with this rather questionable version. I only hope that itll be fixed soon. The old design was admittedly clunky and the icon peculiar to say the least but the app was imminently usable; now its just painful to navigate.

In terms of functionality, this update is really, really bad. The settings dont quite work right and seem to intermittently take effect on the calculations. The interface is awkward and confusing. The harvest date button seems to not work, but if you press on the actual text next to the button, it takes effect. This app is now just infested with bugs. Yuck. On the plus side, the additions of White Labs and Wyeast yeast strains and descriptions is really cool. Theyd be even better stats if things like attenuation, optimal ferm temps, and other info was included. Also, the app also looks better, I suppose. For now, Im going back to the website calculator. Im sure these issues will be fixed, but at this moment, this app is totally useless for me. :(

They took a great app and made it unusable. Need to pitch 8 vials of 1 day old yeast for a 1.055 beer??? Yeast info is nice addition, but it doesnt even include WLP001 (must be a really rare strain no one uses). How about vital stats like temp range, attenuation and flocculation?? Dont buy this until its fixed.

The previous version was fine. Now the yeast viability parameters are on a separate page. Why? There’s plenty of white space on the “Calculate” page to support them AND the fermentation type. The yeast information on the “Additional Info” should include the optimum fermentation temp. And, at least on my copy, WLP001 is totally missing!

This app is decent and will get the job done, but its calculations are not precise and will cost you more DME used in your starter. For example: using the Brewers Friend App vs Mr Malty. Both calculated with: -8/16/2014 age yeast -set to 1.080 OG -pitch in 5.25gal -Stir Plate Mr Malty will limit at growth rate telling you you need 1.75L starter to make the required 287 billion cells. This is a limitation and a flaw. If it showed you how many cells were being created like Brewers Friend does you would see that 1.35L starter would be almost dead on. Thats 40grams of DME you could be saving if your doing the standard 10g/100ml. For $1.99 its a good app, but if you want more precision and the ability be be more precise with your beer, go with the brewers friend yeast calculator. It also allows for step up calculations.

This version seems to have fixed the major issues of the previous update but it is still amazing that the developer has managed to bungle the interface of what is a simple online form.

Just like the Mr Malty website, the app have me all the tools I need to estimate my yeast count. I found it very easy to navigate the new look and was able to get the same number from both the app and the website which makes me trust it even more. Highly recommend.

Where can i find "Liters of starter need". Thought it would be the same or better than the free calculator.

Save your $. There are better yeast calculator apps available that allow multiple starters to get you where you need to be, especially for big beers. Checkout Yeast Pitch. Great app and worth the price.

Read the reviews, or shall I say lack their of before you even consider purchasing this application! It seriously serves no purpose!

Dont waste your money! Free calculators do more than this worthless app.
